My mother Masako was a gifted artist and potter who chose ceramics as her artistic medium. The art of pottery is a circular creative process in which a finished product can be returned back to earth - if somehow the piece is not perfect or accidentally broken. For more than thirty years, Masako created her own ash glazes foraged from nature and fired pieces inside her kiln at home. Much of her work is dispersed within the family and friends’ households from large vases to small tea cups. Most importantly, she taught me that teaware and especially ceramics should be beautiful, practical and useful. With this philosophy, I am very keen on selecting teaware. I have tested and tried each item, often having a strong point of view on which types of tea to drink with which vessel. I hope you will find your own treasure or gift someone with a special teapot or tea set.
